Candle Making with Susan
One good thing about a snow day is that I get to stay home and stamp! One thing I love to do with my stamping is to create beautiful candles. When Susana's Design Team started doing tutorials for the store's blog, Follow Your Heart, I knew what I wanted to do mine on! When I saw these lovely candles on other people's sites and blogs, I was intimidated about doing them. Jacqui from the PCP Whiff of Joy group put up a tutorial that made it look so easy, I had to try it for myself. It was so much easier than it looked and I fell in love with my new technique. I want everyone to try them! They're so much fun and who doesn't love candles?
The supplies I used were:
White Pillar Candle
White Tissue paper (like what you wrap shirts or blouses inside boxes in)
Stamp
Ink
Color Medium (I used copics and Prismacolor markers)
scissors
Cut-Rite or kitchen wax paper
Embossing or Heating Tool
Embellishments like ribbon, Shimmerz, Stickles, Glitter Hearts, Bella Baubles, whatever you want to decorate your candle with.
1. Stamp your image onto the tissue paper and color with your favorite medium. Make sure that you have something behind your image because your inks will bleed through a bit.
2. Cut the excess tissue paper off. You don't have to trim it just to the outline because the tissue paper will blend into the candle with heating.
3. Center and place your colored image on your candle.
4. Place your wax paper for your image and pull it tight so that the entire image is flat against the candle.
5. Using your embossing tool, heat over your stamped image. Just like heat embossing, you'll be able to see the image as it melts into the candle. That's just so cool! After you've heated the entire image, carefully pull the wax paper off.
6. Here's what your candle looks like before you've added some finishing touches to it.
I colored her with some Pink Poinsettia Shimmerz, added some stickles, a glitter dot, Bella Baubles and some ribbon. I think she's just adorable!
I hope you will give it a try! You can made any type of candles you want for any occasion. Add whatever embellishments you'd like and make it your own. Personalize it. Everyone loves something that was made just for them.
Give it a try! After you do, leave us a link of direct us to where you've posted your candle. We'd love to see your work!
Candle Ingredients: Hearts and Hugs, Ruby Slippers, Tiara, and Grape Stickles, Pink Poinsettia Shimmers, Glitter Hearts, Bella Baubles, Ribbon, Pillar Candle, Rite-Cut Wax Paper, scissors, glue.

Try it out Tuesday - Gift box with "Apelsin Choklad Skorpor"
Kram och dröm sött" / Hug and sweet dreams
Try it Out Tuesday #3 - With Love Gift Box

Hello everyone and Happy Tuesday! :) Today is another Try It Out Tuesday challenge over. Our challenge this week was to use a newly released Karen Lockhart stamp, available Here at Susana's store, and create some sort of packaging project. I decided to do a Valentine's gift box. I used one of my favorite new stamps, Violet Cupcake as my main image. I decided to color it pinkish-red for a Valentine's theme. I colored the image with my copics and cut it out. I next made my box out of SU's Chocolate Chip cardstock. I used my Fiskar's Threading Water border punch to create the border around the bottom of the box. I then layered SU's Rose Red cardstock on top of the box followed by my design paper from K & Co. I added a pink ribbon, and then used my circle nesties to cut out the scalloped circles. I adhered the cupcake to the top circle with dimensionals. I then adhered the circles to each other and to the box with dimensionals. The sentiment is from a Hot of the Press set called Tiny Words. I love this set, it has a sentiment for all occasions. I used SU's Word Window punch to punch the sentiment out. Finally, I added to glittery hearts (from Michael's) to each side of the sentiment. I then filled the box with Sweethearts and Hershey's Kisses. I think this would make a super cute Valentine's day gift :)
I'd love to hear what you think. Make sure to scroll down to see the other amazing projects the rest of the Design Team has come up with. Thanks so much for stopping by :)
Hugs, Christine
Try It Out Tuesday Challenge #3 - Violet Cupcake Box
Today is Tuesday and do you know what that means? Yep it's time for another Try It Out Tuesday Challenge! This weeks challenge was to use any supplies from Susana's Custom Art & Card Design store and a *NEW* Karen Lockhart image to create a package or a small gift (ie. bags, boxes, wrapping--the sky's the limit).
Have a great day!
Try It Out Tuesday Challenge #3 - Sweet Peas and Peapod of Hearts
Sweet Peas are so beautiful and delicate but they are one hearty flower. Any flower that can hold up through me has all my respect! Sweet Peas have that beautiful pink, yellow and beautiful light green color that is so refreshing and renewing. They hold up under the full sun and only require some water and love. My mom has sweet peas growing along the side of her house and they're one of the few flowers I've been able to grow outside. Those and inpatients. I'll take what I can get in the gardening department!
Even though she's off at CHA, Suzanne tasked us with using a new Lockhart stamp to create some type of a wrapper, box, bag, anything you'd put something in. When I saw this adorable stamp in Karen Lockhart's new collection in Susana's shop at Susana's Custom Art and Card Design, I wanted it bad! Then I saw the Peapod of Hearts, I thought they'd make a perfect match for a container for Valentine's Day. You can put candy, a stuffed animal, or even a container of Sweet Peas in it. I received a box from Jamie on another group I'm in and I adored it! Thanks, Jamie, for the perfect Valentine's Day container!
I love the paper and the Oyster Bella Baubles. It seems I use them on everything! Can't get enough of the pearls! I colored them with copics and put some Shimmerz on the flowers and used Glossy Accent to make the vase stand out.
I wish everyone something wonderful and pink for Valentine's Day! Make sure you take a look at the other Design Team member's projects at Follow Your Heart!
Card Recipe, Sweet Peas and Peapod of Hearts by Lockhart Stamp Company, Bella Baubles in Oyster, Pixie Dust Shimmerz, Glossy Accents, nestabilities, copics, Crop-a-dile, ribbon, My Minds Eye Valetine Collection paper.
Try It Out Tuesday #3-Lemon Drop Box
Not my strong point but I did my best. I chose to use the Lemon and Bay Leaves and create a mini pizza box to hold some lemon drops (which were next to impossible to find!! Luckily Matthew spotted LemonHead candies!) .
stamps: Lemon and Bay Leaves
paper: Gina K. Luxury white cardstock, cardstock, Laura Ashley Traditional
ink: Memento Tuxedo Black , Palette Landscape
others: copics, prismacolors, OMS, buttons, White Scrappers Floss
Saturday, January 24, 2009
The store will NOT be shipping from January 24th through January 29th as I will be at the CHA convention searching for unique products to bring to the store. Shipping will commence on January 30th. I appreciate your patience ahead of time as I will do my BEST to get your products shipped as quickly as possible when I return :o)

Paper Piecing...Danni Style
I decided to show you how I do paper piecing. I remember a few years ago when I had only been stamping a wee bit someone told me that something would look great if I had paper pieced it. Say what? I nodded my head and said, okay thanks. I just brushed it off and thought yeah right, whatever.
Well, fast forward to recently when I discovered the world of blogging and saw all the inspiration out there and guess what, people were paper piecing!!! OHHHH, so that's what that is! It really is a fun way to add a little "wow" to your images.
For my tutorial I'm going to be using Bunnie. Isn't she just too fun?
I thought the best way to show you the extra little "wow" this gives your image is to show you both ways--just colored and then paper pieced.
Both ways start the same way--with a stamped image.
You color the image the way you want for both ways also.
When I paper piece I always color under where the paper is going to go but I know some people don't, just your own personal preference.
For the next step you need to choose what paper you want to use. I chose some gorgeous Laura Ashley Traditonal paper. The pattern I chose has a look to it just like fabric, perfect for Ms. Bunnie's robe.
Once you have your paper you need to stamp your image onto it, if you're just piecing a small section--just stamp that part. (Don't you love the green face? LOL!)
Next you carefully cut out the section you want to piece on. For this example it's the robe. I usually try to cut right on the black line.
After I get the section cut out, I take a black pen and on it's side, or if you have a brush tip, I go around the image to fill in any places that maybe I cut too close--this just gives it a more finished look. (Sorry no photo--couldn't do it and hold the camera at the same time!) I did try to do a before the pen and after....

Next you adhere your sections to your image. I know some people use pop dots to give a bit of dimension, but for this example I just adhered it right to the image.
And that's all there is to it!!
Here's the image just colored-

And then here's the image paper pieced-
And both together--see the extra "wow" factor?
And the finished cards-
I also used fun flock on her cute bunny slippers, and some Oyster Bella Baubles on the flowers.
The possibilities are endless with this technique! We'd love to see your paper pieced creations! Leave a comment with a link so we can check them out!
(whew, I made it through my first tutorial! How'd I do?)
Smiles-
Danni

Try it out Tuesday 2 - Fantasy DP
I am a little bit late with the posting this Tuesday, because I was waiting for this lovely DP to arrive so that I could use it for this weeks challenge . I was lucky - it arrived in my mailbox yesterday together with some other yummy things that I had ordered from Susana.
This weeks challenge is to use any stamp from Susana's store, any Dovecraft/Laura Ashley Paper on our card with only two other embellishments. Extra credits if we would use Shimmerz (luckily I had ordered some - need to try new things - right?? ;-)
The DP should be at the center stage and only 2 embellishments! Can you imagine how hard this was ;-)) Normally you put the image in the center..... Well it really helped using this lovely DP from Dovecraft - called Fantasy together with the "Riding the Breeze" stamp.
I wanted it to look like the land of dreams (thought the DP gave me that impression ;-). I also decided to have a go with my new copics. So hard it is to change to another way of colouring, but I need to try (realized that I need more colours of course and much more practise....) As for the embellishments - I picked flowers and Bella Baubles "String of Pearls".
I added some Shimmerz to the wings (pink, blue and angel white)+ to the DP - hope you can tell from this picture (on the flowers, stars, shoes and wings - the fairy on the DP was white otherwise). The flash reflected against the Shimmerz - so it was a little bit difficult to get a good shot of this card this hour (it's pitch black dark here in Sweden).
It's late here so I better go to bed, but if you'd like to play along just upload to PCP or SCS using the keyword "TIOT2"

Try It Out Tuesday #2 - A Woman's Right to Shoes

Good morning everyone and happy Tuesday! :) Today is Try it Out Tuesday at Susana's Custom Art and Card Design. Our challenge this week was to use any stamp from Susana's store, any dp she sells and only 2 embellishments. Make sure to scroll down to see what the other amazing DT ladies have created.
For my card, I used a Rubber Romance stamp as my main image. I stamped Kristy onto PTI cardstock and colored her in. I next created my card base, which measures 5 1/2 by 5 1/2, out of SU's Pretty in Pink. I layered Elegant Eggplant on top of that followed by this delicious Dovecraft design paper from Susana's Store. The paper I used is from the Glamour Prints pack. Susana is the only US retailer who currently sells this wonderful paper so make sure to check it out :) I then mounted my image onto my SU cardstock with dimensionals. Finally, I added my two embellishments, ribbon and Primas.
What do you think? Thanks so much for stopping by. We'd love for you to join us in these challenges. Just post your creations to PCP or Splitcoast with the keyword "tiot2" so we can all see :)
Hugs, Christine :)
Try It Out Tuesday #2 - Pretty Playthings
I love pretty bottles and the scents that come out of those lovely spray bottles. The thick, cut glass that light sparkles off of, the satiny tassel on the send and the different shaped stoppers that you pull out with that hint of fragrance on it just makes me weak in the knees! I've always been a perfume junkie since I used to buy Youth Dew by Estee Lauder for my Aunt Betty for Christmas. Yep, I started out at the top of the line and my first perfume I picked up for myself wasn't the fragrances from the drug store, I had to get the best - Chanel No. 5! Loved it and still do. There's something about that classy, square glass bottle! And Victoria's Secret Very Sexy for Her. Oh, that's my signature scent now!
Our Design Team Leader, Suzanne, tasked us with highlighting some of the gorgeous design paper that Susana has in the store and restricted us to using only two embellishments. Do you know how hard that was for me? I wanted to use some of the new charms, petals, velvet flock. I could go on but I knept it simple and classy. I ran with the Glamour Prints pack from Dovecraft. I love this paper pack and Susana's is the only place in the US that you can purchase it. I love the hearts on it. Kind of ties these beautiful, classy bottles in with Valentines Day. These beautiful perfume bottles are designed by our very own Susana! Aren't they great? She has such wonderful bottles and shoes! Everything for this card you can pick up in Susana's great store!
I love the paper flowers by Bazzill and the Oyster Bella Baubles are nothing if not classy! It feels like a card just wouldn't be complete without a touch of Shimmerz! Oh, how I love the good things! Hope you do as well.
Make sure that you stop by Susana's store group on PCP and join in on our fun! There's lots of chatter and fun going on over there. Sign up and join us!
Ingredients: Glamour Pack paper by Dovecraft, Stamp Sheet 1 by Susana Loves Stamps, Bella Baubles, Bazzill flowers, Shimmerz, nestabilities
Hugs to you all,
Susan
Try I Out Tuesday #2---Elegant Lilacs

Happy Tuesday everyone! Welcome to "Try It Out Tuesday" Challenge #2---this week's challenge is to use any stamp from Susana's store, any dp she sells and only 2 embellishments! Make sure and scroll down to see the rest of the DT's awesome projects for today's challenge! If you'd like to play along just upload to PCP or SCS using the keyword "tiot2" so we can all see, 'kay!
For my card I used a new Karen Lockhart stamp called "Lilacs in Pitcher" which I love--reminds me of my mom & grandma cuz' they love lilacs so much! The lovely dp is from the Laura Ashley Traditional Collection and those beautiful gold embellies are Bella Baubles in "goldilocks"! I didn't put a sentiment on this one because I might use it for a birthday or a thank you note--so I left the inside blank to stamp whatever sentiment pleases me! Of course using ONLY 2 embellies was hard for me, but sometimes simple is good & I think this turned out rather elegant! Whatcha' think?
This close-up shows the diamond glaze that I added to the pitcher and Shimmerz (in iced lavender) on the flowers. Just some subtle ways to add dimension & pizazz to your stamped images!
Hope you enjoyed today's challenge posts---make sure & look at the DT's projects below too!
hugz,
Suzanne Dean
Try It Out Tuesday #2 Riding the Breeze
We'd love to have you join in the challenge, just leave us a comment with a link to your creation. If you upload to SCS or PCP, use the keyword TIOT2.
Okay, onto my card for this week!! I had fun with this faerie ! Doesn't she just look like she's having so much fun? Since we were only allowed two embellishments I decided to give the card some dimension by stamping the flower twice and then cutting out one and put it on pop dots.
I was always a sucker for extra credit too so I also added touches of shimmerz to the flower.
Smiles and have a happy day! Danni
Supplies:
card size: 5x5
stamps: Riding the Breeze, TAC Just Smile-retired-on inside
paper: TAC ultrasmooth white cardstock, Dovecraft Retro Floral, cardstock
ink: Memento Tuxedo Black, Palette Viridian Leaf, Palette Starry Night, Palette Iris
others: copics, prismacolors, Pink Poinsettia Blingz Shimmerz, stardust stickles, Clear Copic Glitter Pen, sizzlit photo corner die, Oyster Bella Baubles
Try It Out Tuesday Challenge #2 ~ Just a Note
It's Tuesday and it's time for another "Try It Out Tuesday Challenge", this week the challenge is to create a card or project using any of the wonderful Dovecraft Designer Paper from Susana's store (she's the only one in the US that carries it) and to use only 2 embellishments. So for my card I decided to use one of Susana's Faeries that she carries at her store called Would You Be My Friend and my 2 embellishments that I used are gold ribbon and a flower with a Pink Petals gem in the center.Sunday, January 18, 2009

WOW!!! Here I am now starting my store blog with an amazing talented group of women the Follow Your Heart DT!!! I want to start to with a “Special” Thanks to Suzanne Dean :o) Other people had turned me down to design for me as my store was new and small just a few stamps back then. Suzanne just saw something there accepted my offer to be on my DT and I am forever grateful!!!
Can you believe it this ALL started from seeing a 4 x 4 quilt on a little trip to the California coast. I had left my corporate job wanting to figure things out. It was a beautiful grouping of hearts and it was $400. I thought to myself yes it may be antique fabric but I can so something like that but use my paper crafting skills. It was at that moment I'll never forget that it came back to me a love of all things Art :o) So when we got back I went to the craft store gathered up a bunch of stuff and started creating paper quilt theme art which started selling…I then went on to design some t- shirts which started selling and then thought stamps and designed a small line of those which started selling. A friend told me start up a store so I did in September of 08 and after meeting Suzanne guess what things started selling :o) I wanted to create a store where people are treated as good friends and can find some unique items. I still have a ways to go but I am making a bunch of good friends :o) A special Thanks to those of you who have supported the store! I have some exciting stuff up my sleeves for this year at the store so I hope you check out this blog, be on my email list or my upcoming store PCP site to have fun and learn about new things that come down the pike! I really hope you enjoy this blog as a place to make friends, get store info and learn some techniques :o)
What I wish for you ALL is that you have a chance to follow your heart (in this case my passion for art) and see where it takes you cuz WOW the places it can take you!!!

Try It Out Tuesday #1---Lockhart Origami Box

For my project, I used one of the *NEW* Lockhart stamps called "Lemons & Bay Leaves" and you can see the entire new collection HERE. I made this origami box using the Technique Challenge #203 on SCS and you can find the directions here. I colored my image with Copics and added a nice coat of diamond glaze to the image for an elegant pop! These boxes are easy to make and I'm sure you would find them in a boutique for over $20--what a beautiful gift to give someone and not spend a fortune on!
On the inside I placed 3 large, new packs of bright yellow post-it notes so that this would be a great desk accessory. Of course there are lots of great goodies you could store in here too!
Make sure and scroll down and see the rest of the DT projects for today & we hope you will take part in our Tuesday Challenge and other tutorials & technique spotlights we will have weekly here on the blog. Also, stop by Susana's store site on Paper Craft Planet---we will have weekly challenges, prizes and fun discussions, so come join us!!

Try It Out Tuesday #1 - Merci

Good morning everyone and Happy Tuesday :) I am so excited, today marks the start of our "Try It Tuesdays" challenges. We'd love for you to participate in the challenges. You can upload your creations to SCS or PCP with the keyword "TIOT1" so we can all see. This week's challenge was to create a card/project using the colors of black, white, gray & a POP of one other color!
I used this gorgeous Rubber Romance stamp as my main image. I don't believe Susana has this image up on her store webpage yet, but if you are interested in it, send her an e-mail at susana@susanascustomartandcarddesign.com, I believe she has one in stock now and can get more. I colored the image with my copics, and then sponged my "pop" color (pink) around the image. I next created my card base, which measures 5 1/2 by 5 1/2, out of SU's gray (I'm not sure of the name, but it's the darkest gray). I layered Basic Black on top of that followed by glittery white paper from DCWV. I then layered my design paper on top of that, which is by Amanda Blu. I added a black ribbon from Michael's, and then layered my image onto my cardstock with dimensionals. I used my new tag trio nesties to cut out the tag and I stamped "Merci" (from an old SU set) onto the tag with my pink ink. I added a pink rhinestone to the tag. Finally, I added black and white Primas and a black Making Memories brad to the image.
Make sure to scroll down and see what the rest of the design team has created. :)
Hugs, Christine :)
Try It Out Tuesday #1- Faerie With Rose
Lately all I've wanted to do is sit and color. I've got some of the greatest stamps for my design teams and have had such fun just coloring. It's relaxing in an innocent way that I'd forgotten all about. One of my favorite Christmas presents was a package of crafting supplies from one of my favorite aunts. Crayons, a huge color book, construction paper, scissors, white paste, pencils, it was a dream come true! I would sit for hours and just color. When I opened my package from Susana at Susana's Custom Art and Card Design, and found this beautiful faerie floating on a rose, I had to color her up!
Our Design Team was asked to create a card using black and white paper with a splash of color so I chose lime green as my splash. When I think of splash, I think of the drink 7-Up! So I went with the green of the bottle. The black and white paper is from the Fantasy package from Dovecraft. This paper is amazing and Susana's store is the only place you can get it in the US. It's a great size, 8x8, and fits any project. She's colored with copics and I've used Pink Poinsettia on her wings. Here's a close up of her.
I love how they glisten! The green ribbon is accented with Lime Scrapper's Floss and the corners are finished off with Oyster Bella Baubles, and Peridot Petals. I love how she came out. She's just so stunning all colored up.
We all need to find something to relax us and take us to a happy, comfortable place if even for just a moment. I've found mine. I hope you find yours.
